Many companies have predicted that the future of operations and supply chain management (SCM) could change significantly from planning, scheduling, optimization and transportation to artificial intelligence (AI). People are increasingly interested in machine learning, artificial intelligence and other smart technologies in SCM. In this context, this study provides an overview of the concept of AI and SCM. It then focuses on timely and critical analysis of AI-based supply chain process and applications. This study analyzes emerging business models based on AI and a case study of a selected company. It also assesses their related AI solutions and their relative value to the business. Therefore, this research identifies several areas of value creation for the application of artificial intelligence in the supply chain. It also suggests an approach to design business models for AI supply chain applications.
